I thought it was only fitting to talk about travel to the Caribbean during hurricane season since we have several storms currently churning in the Atlantic and one about to make landfall on the Outer Banks.
The question of hurricanes often come up when clients come in to book their summer and fall vacations. And the only way to avoid the potential problem is to either travel from December 1 to May 31 or to vacation outside what’s known as the Hurricane Belt. Islands outside of the belt are rarely affected by hurricanes. Those islands known as the ABC Island’s are Aruba Curacao and Bonaire.
What do most people do? They book their vacation to the destination they want and buy travel protection!
I’ve vacationed during hurricane season many times and I don’t really think about it. My vacation was delayed once due to hurricane damage to an airport terminal and it didn’t ruin my vacation, it just delayed it by about 14 hours.
One nice thing about hurricanes is they’re fast-moving! It’s not like a snowstorm that can linger for a while and tie up airports for days.
And if you’re thinking of a cruise, don’t let the tropical season be the deciding factor in taking a cruise during that time. Sometimes the best deals are during the fall! The ships have plenty of notice about the storms and they divert away from the storms and sometimes even change the ports they’re stopping at. What you may encounter with a cruise are some rough seas.
But for the most part, people travel during hurricane season without a problem, enjoying the beautiful Caribbean islands and the great travel deals that are abundant during this time of year.
